What happens if the goal is not met?
Common Bonds 3 will not be made. There is no back up plan. If we cannot gather the funds to cover for expenses, then we will release our authors from their contract and put this project on ice. Backers won’t be charged, rewards won’t be delivered.

How long is the anthology and what’s in it?
The anthology contains 18 short stories and poems of science fiction, fantasy, and horror. All of them have an aromantic MC and centre platonic bonds. The anthology comes up at a total of 80,000 words, which will be around 390 pages (this is ~80 more than our previous Common Bonds anthologies).

Will there be a call for submissions for this anthology?
No, not this one. Common Bonds 3 already has a full lineup built from our submission pile from Common Bonds 2.

Are all stories within this by aromantic writers?
No, being aromantic wasn’t a requirement to submit. We have encouraged people to let us know, however, and we’ve ensured that a significant portion of our stories would be from aromantic writers. Our entire editorial team is also aromantic (and so is our cover artist!).

Will there be another Common Bonds anthology, then, with a new call for submissions?
Yes. :] We absolutely want to make a Common Bonds 4, but that is a Future Project with an undetermined date.

Why are you crowdfunding?
We need help to cover the costs of publishing the anthology and believe in the strength of our community. Crowdfunding is a unique way to build together.

Why is your goal so high?
Every Common Bonds anthology has crowdfunded with a goal to pay authors US$ 0.06 per word (and we have so far always made it to the first stretch goal of US$ 0.08 per word). We firmly believe in paying our authors well for their work, and this is especially true with an anthology like Common Bonds, dedicated to a marginalized community. This is what it costs to build the anthology, from author compensation, interior and cover art, printing the crowdfunding’s copy, as well as an array of administrative costs (BackerKit fees, payment fees, etc.).

Why are the Nerezia bundles split like this?
When we crowdfunded Common Bonds 2, we had a Chronicles of Nerezia bundle containing novellas book 1 through 5. This means we expect a lot of returning backers to already own part of the novellas, and we wanted them to be able to pick the rest of the series! Hence two bundles, 1-5 and 6-9.

Why bundles from other authors?
Common Bonds has always been a community project. We would not be here without aromantic readers and authors, and it made sense to us to reach out to others in our network with books we knew would please our aromantic anthology’s audience. Every author participating receives a $1 cut of the bundle sale because we want to give back to them, too, and with more than exposure. Sometimes it’s good to make the rising tide that lifts all very concrete.

Why is everything in both Canadian and American dollars?
All of Common Bonds’ finances operate from Canada, and as such the funds received will be in Canadian dollars. However, we have found that marketing in Canadian dollars regularly causes confusion (for example, the prices get mistaken for US dollars and look higher than they are) and that the world at large is more used to converting to and from US dollars. We have chosen to give estimated US dollar values to facilitate everyone’s decision making.

So will I be charged based on the Canadian or American dollars?
Canadian dollars. US dollars are exclusively there as a guide and are an estimate based on current conversion. You will be charged according to the Canadian dollars and BackerKit should give you the value in your own currency.

When is delivery expected?
We are expecting to send Common Bonds 3 to backers before the end of the year! Other digital rewards from book bundles will be sent before the end of August 2026.

What is BackerKit?
BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!
The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.
How does BackerKit work?
After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.
I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?
The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.
Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.
To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.
How do I update my shipping address?
BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.
When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?
That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.
I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?
As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
